Our team's story
Hello! We are the Paul Family, over 8 short years ago our incredible son Carson Cash was brought into the world at McMaster Children's Hospital. Our beautiful baby boy was 3 weeks early & born with Congential Hydrocephalus, which required immediate medical intervention shortly after his birth. At 4 weeks old, Carson underwent a brain surgery called an Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy (ETV), which was the least invasive approach. However, within a few short weeks cerebral spinal fluid began to leak from his incision site and we needed to have emergency surgery to have a shunt placed in his brain to help CSF drain into his abdomen. Carson lived with his shunt working properly, draining the fluid and having regular check ups with his amazing doctors. At 9 months old, Carson began to exhibit signs and symptoms of intercrainal pressure and again was brought back to the hospital to find his shunt had disconnected and the tubing had migrated into his abdomen. This required emergent surgery again, where the tubing was removed through his belly button and reattached and replaced. Carson will require to have this monitored his entire life. Today, our son is an incredibly happy boy who always has a smile on his face and shows kindness to everyone. He has an amazing light inside him that shines so bright in our lives. Everyday we are reminded of how lucky we are and grateful to RMHCSCO for their support during such hard days in our lives.
This fundraiser means so much to us. We have continued to rally for this house and its amazing staff who work so hard to ensure all the families are supported and cared for while their babies are at the hospital. It is incredibly important to us as a family that we support others in similar situations and continue to pay that love forward.
Thankyou to so many who continue (for 9 years now) to support our fundraising efforts! And to all the teams who work so hard to raise money for this important place in our community, THANKYOU!!
