Help Rosalind raise money

For participating in Blue Nose Marathon

My Story…

On November 11th, 6-7 members of the PEI Committeee of the Guatemala-Maritimes Breaking the Silence Network, and their friends, will be doing a 10K Walk or Run (mostly walk!) on the Confederation Trail between the Colville Rd. and Hunter River.

The walk is in solidarity with BTS members from the mainland who are doing a 10K walk as part of the Blue Nose Marathon in Halifax the previous weekend.

The Guatemala – Maritimes Breaking the Silence Network  is a voluntary network of people in the Maritimes who began to organize in 1988 to support the efforts of Guatemalans struggling for political, social, and economic justice. As a community of people who share this commitment to solidarity, we undertake advocacy and lobbying; organize delegations; send interns, volunteers, and human rights accompaniers; promote fairly-traded coffee; and raise awareness within our own communities through speaking tours by Guatemalan leaders and other political campaigns.

At present our coordinator in Guatemala is providing human rights accompaniment to those Guatemalans who are seeking justice in the Courts for the massacres perpetrated against Mayan communities during the internal conflict of the 60’s. 70’s and 80’s, to those who are being criminalised and threatened due to their peaceful resistance to mining projects and other mega projects which threaten their land and water and to peasant and small farmers organized to assert their right to land.

Thank you very much for your support.

Description

This annual event has become an a very important fun!raiser for Breaking the Silence (BTS).  With your generous donation, our Maritime-Guatemalan network can continue to support the efforts of Guatemalans who struggle for political, social and economic justice.

100% of your donation will help us undertake essential activities related to advocacy and lobbying as well organize delegations, send interns, volunteers and human rights accompaniers.  We cannot do all of this without your help.

There is something about crossing a finish line that encourages us to do this year and year again.
