For participating in National 5K SCADaddle for Research - Chicago area

My Story…

SCAD: Spontaneous coronary artery dissection.

August 29, 2021 will by my second SCADaddle 5K to support SCAD Research, Inc at Mayo Clinic. As you may or may not know, I am a two-time heart attack survivor, as a result of Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection, (SCAD). What is SCAD? Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) is a little known and poorly understood type of a heart attack caused when a sudden tear occurs within the layers of one or more arteries to the heart. This tear blocks blood flow causing a heart attack and sometimes death. It primarily affects healthy women between ages 30 - 55 with no underlying cardiovascular disease. Research is being conducted at Mayo Clinic to find the WHY of SCAD. SCAD Research, Inc's mission is to raise funds to support the most promising Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) research and to ultimately bring awareness, dissemination of knowledge and research findings to the bedside of patients with SCAD.
