Running Course Description:
The Asheville Off Road Series run is a 2.5 mile loop course that runs on Ride Kanuga property. With only 160 feet of eleveation gain, you will get to enjoy your time on your feet, running through the beautiful woods and trails. The course is mostly single-track trail with a couple of short sections of gravel/dirt roads and a couple really short snippets on paved road. Get ready to let your legs fly on the Ride Kanuga connector trail and flowy trail near their soon-to-be new office building. Both of these sections are flowy, smooth as butter and fun!
Biking only options
The Asheville Gravel Grinder 13 mile route is the bike course for the off-road duathlon and also a stand-alone bike event for riders looking for a shorter introduction to gravel riding. There is approximately 1,000 feet of elevation gain on this route. Similar to the 25-mile route, the 13-mile route features about 3 miles of smooth, flat to uphill gravel sessions that can be done on a road bike with robust tires (minimum of 28mm gator-skin), on a gravel bike, or even on a mountain bike. If you've got a bike and a desire to try out gravel this is the course for you! If you are a trail runner thinking about the duathlon, the bike course will be fun and exciting, but won't be so challenging that it takes away from your trail running legs.
The Asheville Gravel Grinder 42 mile route is a challenging course with 3,600 feet of elevation gain and over 18 miles of mixed gravel. There will be steep and leg searing gravel climbs, primitive tracks along the NC/SC state line, steep and fast downhills, and a beautiful flowing section of gravel surrounding Lake Summit. This course has it all! A gravel bike with 35-42mm knobby tires and a wide range of gears would be a good choice but it could also be done on a mountain bike. This course is great for even the most experienced gravel racers or anyone looking for a challenging ride that won't take all day.
