RUN12

Due to many factors, including a prevailing stigma perpetuated by sport cultures that glorify stoicism and paint athletes experiencing mental health challenges as "weak", mental health has historically, gone unaddressed in sport. However, with more and more prominent athletes sharing their stories of struggle, mental health is emerging as a key input of athletic performance and overall functioning that cannot be ignored.

RUN12 is a newly founded run event that aims to raise awareness of mental health challenges in athletes. Starting in March 2021, we invite everyone to join the RUN12 crew to run the marathon challenge(s) or virtual marathon(s) in support of the Canadian Centre for Mental Health and Sport (CCMHS). With COVID-19 having canceled nearly every sporting event in 2020, RUN12 is an opportunity for athletes from across the world to take back 2021 by joining together in the ambitious campaign to get off the couch and run every month!

The Events

1. Marathon Challenge ($5 fee/challenge)

Not ready for a full marathon or just looking to clock a few steps? Sign up and run 42.2km within a month up to 12x. Split up anyway you like, 5k, 10k, half-marathon, up to you! Upload your results after your session(s), and when your total reaches 42.2km, you'll receive a finisher certificate!

2. Marathon Event ($5 fee/event)

On the last Sunday of every month, run a full marathon up to 12x from anywhere at any time during the day.
