The Ottawa Humane Society is a registered charity serving the city of Ottawa. Thanks to the heart-felt gifts from people in our community, close to 8,000 animals receive the medical care and TLC they need to find new homes. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic is able to reduce the pet population problem, and humane education programs build a humane and compassionate community.

One animal grateful for your generosity is Bosley.

It was a cold, dark November evening when Bosley — a senior Rottweiler-hound mix — was abandoned in an outdoor dog enclosure at the Ottawa Humane Society.

You only have to look into this sweet senior’s eyes to imagine his heartache: being abandoned by his family and the fear and confusion of finding himself in an unfamiliar place, all alone.

OHS staff soon discovered that Bosley was suffering from a potentially life-threatening condition known as a bilateral perineal hernia. His condition is treatable but requires an expensive, specialized surgery — the total cost of Bosley's care will be more than $6,500.

Bosley is a sweet, gentle soul who has quickly become a beloved favourite at the OHS.

“Bosley is an incredibly well-behaved dog — basically the perfect patient,” said Dr. Shelley Hutchings, OHS chief veterinarian. “We don’t know for sure how long his condition has been left untreated, but we’re happy he’s with us now and can get the care he desperately needs.”

Can Bosley count on your support in the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend?
