The third annual Black Bear Half Marathon and 8k is back again for 2022!
The in-person half marathon and 8k both wind through Hendersonville, NC (near Asheville) on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2022. There is also a Virtual Half Marathon and 8k running option for runners not able to attend the in-person event.
The Black Bear Half and 8k both offer a scenic, mostly flat course along the Oklawaha Greenway. The Half Marathon has less than 400 feet of elevation gain and a socially distanced setup, so you won’t want to miss it! Swag + Medals
HALF MARATHON SWAG
All participants will receive a commemorative medal after the race! You'll also have the option to add on a long-sleeve Brooks dri-fit running shirt, available in men's and women's sizes, for just $5 if you register by September 18th at midnight. After that, the shirts will be available for $15 online. Unfortunately, shirt costs have risen dramatically over the last few months, which is why we can no longer offer them for free with registration. Virtual participants will receive a free shirt/medal in the mail as well.
If you want to participate in the Appalachian Trilogy (AVL Half, Jump Off Rock Half, Black Bear Half), you must be registered for all three races by July 10th at midnight! If you don't register by that time, you will not be eligible to receive the Trilogy medal.

8K SWAG
NEW FOR 2022! All 8k participants will receive a free finisher medal at the end of their run! Short sleeve shirt will also be available for just $5 during registration up until September 18th at midnight. After that, the short sleeve shirts will be available for $10 during registration. Unfortunately, shirt costs have risen dramatically over the last few months, which is why we can no longer offer them for free with registration.
The 8k event will also have cash prizes for top finishers. Overall male and female winners will win $100 each, and 2nd and 3rd place will also take home some cash. Not in contention to win the race? Don't fret! We want you to Race your Own Speed! One lucky finisher in the 8k will be picked at random at the Awards Ceremony to receive $50 cash.

Here's how it works:
- If you register for at least 3 of our 4 half marathons in 2022, you'll get an awesome extra medal after the last one!
- The deadline to be registered for at least 3 of the races is July 10th at midnight so we have time to order the medals.
- Medals will be given out at the 2022 Black Bear Half Marathon event. If you can't make it to that event, medals will be available for local pickup at Fleet Feet Asheville or shipped to you for $10.
- There are 200 spots available for the 2022 trilogy.
Here are the 4 eligible events to choose from. As long as you are registered for at least 3 of them by July 10th at midnight, you'll get your extra medal!
