On July 27th and July 26th I celebrated my 4th and 8th  “SCADiversaries “ , as they are called.  I have to keep reminding myself that I  am A survivor & I am SO grateful to have 2nd & 3rd chances . I figured I must be here for A reason, so I want to make the best of my life & stay positive. This is the reason why I volunteered to be the MI chairperson for the 1st Michigan SCADaddle 5k for Research. I KNOW SCAD research/Awareness is why I was finally diagnosed accurately. SCAD is treated differently than the classic heart attack , which is caused by atherosclerotic disease . It has been concluded by SCAD Research that SCAD is NOT as rare as once thought. Drs have been missing it because they didn’t know what to look for. I have had 4 total “events “ , but I only count the ones that caused the STEMI heart attacks . The other 2 were in between 2014-2018 & didn’t show troponin elevation, so no heart caths were done . I wasn’t diagnosed with SCAD until the 4th event , 4 years today , my 2nd STEMI heart attack. I’ll never forget the  cardiologists words in the Cath lab. It was A blessing that the Dr who was on call that night had just read  an Article from Mayo Clinic . He knew to look for SCAD. He  pulled up my heart Cath from heart attack on 7/27/14 & also diagnosed that one as SCAD in retrospect. See! Research is the reason I received the diagnosis AND proper treatment . If I didn’t have the repeat heart attack, I wouldn’t have known I had SCAD.  Today , I wanted to share this brochure about SCAD (Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection ) .
