My Story…
In January 2020, just when we were starting to hear about some strange disease in a far away place, my family and I were on our "year long vacation" travelling around the world. Part of those travels led us to Tanzania where we had the opportunity to stay in Longido with the Tanzanian Education and Microfinance Business Opportunities (TEMBO) organization.
It changed our lives.
TEMBO has an incredible impact on the lives of so many women and girls by giving them the ability to go to school, learn a trade, or start a business. Quite literally, without TEMBO these girls would be married as young as 13 years old.
On my return to Canada (damn you COVID) I was honoured to join the board of TEMBO and I'm proud to be participating in the 2022 TEMBO Serengeti Challenge.
Can I count on your support this year?
Your donations go far: $25 provides a healthy sanitation kit; $$55 purchases a backpack, books and school supplies, $135 purchases a new trunk and bedding, $375 can send a girl to school with everything they need!
Description
I am participating in the 2022 TEMBO Serengeti Challenge to raise funds and awareness for women and girls in Tanzania. I will be moving a total of 60km / 100km across Serengeti National Park in Tanzania (virtually of course).
TEMBO has been tremendously successful at giving girls the tools to enter school (and stay in school), to succeed at their studies, and to graduate, often a first in their families. TEMBO also has supported these girls with vocational training to turn that education into careers and opportunities to build their communities.
Now more than ever we need your help to continue our work. COVID continues to impact how we work in Longido. As of March 2022 only 4.7% of the Tanzanian population has had a single vaccine. That means the pandemic is still a real challenge for TEMBO as we want to continue to help as many as possible.
