The 44th Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Run is going Green!
We are committed to producing an environmentally sustainable event. Small steps such as removing paper registration forms to eliminating single use plastic cups and bottles are all a part of our commitment to sustainability.
Did you know that it takes the average pair of sneakers over 30 years to decompose in a landfill? This year, we have partnered with Sneakers4Funds whose sole mission is to save the planet by removing sneakers from landfills. Sneakers collected by this program are shipped to micro-enterprises in 27 different countries where the shoes are cleaned, refurbished, and used by these businesses to help their communities. We'd love to have your help! Bring your gently used, clean athletic shoes to our collection bin on race day. Shoes should be in good condition and the shoe laces should be tied together so they don't lose their mate!
Our commitment to saving the planet also includes not providing finisher medals. Medals are harsh on the environment on many levels. The mining of the metal to create finisher's medals is destructive. The paints used to decorate the medals are toxic to the water supply and the air. Additionally, thousands of medals end up in landfills instead of being properly recycled.
You will even find compostable food containers and utensils at the event this year. Our sponsor, New Leaf Community Markets will be providing a reusable shopping bag to every registrant. Earn your envirotokens and learn how you can support other community programs just by using your reusable bags when you shop at New Leaf Community Markets.
Our small steps to help save the planet do add up.
