Starting in the township of Kumara (Corner Greenstone Road and Town Belt) you will race the 26km to Greymouth.
The town of Kumara, has some great history to it and what a place to start your 26km ride. The gold mining history of Kumara is incredible, apparently Kumara had 50 pubs. Maybe this is where the pub crawl came from, recommendation is not to have a beer before you start but why not a Monteith’s when you finish?
This race will suit everyone and we've made it from 7-years upward. There are no climbs in it, it is a fast flat ride with some amazing beauty. Again you'll cross over a swing bridge (limited to 10 riders at a time, please respect this) if you look down or to your right you'll see some amazing views of the Taramakau River and obviously where a glazier has cut out the stream access to the river.
As you race along the Historic Kumara Bush Tram you'll be riding the history of the Kumara gold rush. The track is incredible as you're engulfed in the trees, as you come out of this, you'll head toward the Taramakau Historic Rail Bridge. You won;t cross the old. you'll go under the brand new bridge. loop around and cross the new bridge on the cycle-way.
Then venture along the coast with the Tasman Sea to your left and race through until you come to the finish at the Grey River. The last few km's from Taramakau are fast, when you reach the Paroa Hotel, as you come off the bridge you turn into the the car park and ride straight through it "no stopping for another quiet one" to the track, don't go on to the road. Over the last few km's please respect all the give way points through this part of the ride as vehicles do have access to the beach front.
The Finish is in Greymouth at Hargreaves Park & Miro Street - just past the Suburbs Rugby League Clubrooms.
As you come up to the Finish, give yourself a pat on the back and remember to smile for the cameras.
There will be transport to the start at Kumara before the event. Leaving Monteith's Brewery Greymouth at 9:30am sharp. This is non refundable or transferrable.
Cut off for all rides to be finished is 4:00pm
