For many years, Wheels has helped to raise funds for programming as well as important capital projects at The Darling Home for Kids including building of a wheelchair accessible playground, renovations to a respite bedroom, a tranquil therapeutic sculpture garden, a clubhouse for the kids, the purchase of a wheelchair accessible van and more. We have missed seeing riders pedal up our winding driveway for the last two years and we look forward to seeing you this June!
Sign up today to raise funds and help make a difference for families with medically complex children. Register to fundraiser for the 25km, 50km or 100km ride and join us in person at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre. If you're unable to make it out to ride with us on June 25, you can continue to support virtually by signing up and riding, running or walking at a time that works for you.

CYCLE CHALLENGE
Log your kilometers and together let's ride over 70,000kms in support of the over 70,000 children in Ontario who are classified as medically complex. Simply click on "LOG YOUR KMs" in the menu on the left and submit your kilometres (don't forget about your training rides!). This group challenge is open to both virtual and in person riders. If you are walking or running virtually, log those kilometres too! We'll keep track and see how long it takes us to get to that mark.
Since 2011, Wheels has raised over $1.25 million in support of capital projects and core programs offered at The Darling Home for Kids.
As the population of medically complex children rises in Ontario year over year, so does the demand for our services. When you support Wheels, the funds you raise will help provide a gift for today, and an investment in the future, for children with complex medical needs and their families. With your help, we will provide each child with the best care possible. They have beaten the odds to survive. Together, we can help them make the most of each day they have.
The Darling Home for Kids will follow public health policies with respect to COVID-19 protocols, ensuring the safety of all participants. All participants must self-screen prior to attending the event and follow current public health regulations, including adhering to social distancing recommendations. If you do not pass the self-screen and need to refrain from participating, your Wheels 2023 registration can be deferred until 2024.

The Impact of Your Ride
In a peaceful and natural setting, The Darling Home for Kids provides professional, holistic, high quality, and personalized hospice, respite and residential care for children with medical complexities and their families. Since opening our doors in 2004, we have provided over 500,000 hours of service to children across Ontario.
The Darling Home for Kids offers a combination of unique programs and services to serve families in Ontario who are raising a child with complex medical needs.
- In the last year, we provided more than 40,000 hours of service
- Despite pandemic-related closures to ensure the safety of our residents, 235 days of palliative and respite care were provided
- In a typical year, we work with approximately 60 families
- We maintain an over 90% overall satisfaction rate, as reported in family feedback and surveys
- In 2023, we are expanding our Home by 10,000 sq. ft. to accommodate more children and decrease wait times for service
Our organization works in collaboration with the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, and with physicians, acute care settings, and community partners to provide essential care to families when they need it the most. Although we receive funding from the government, it only covers a percentage of our operations. Therefore, we rely on the generosity of individuals, foundations and corporate partners - those who directly support our Home and those who support our Signature Events - to raise the funds required to keep our doors open, allowing us to continue making a difference in the lives of families across Ontario.
It is our vision for a world where no child is too complex to receive the love, care, and support they deserve.
“The Darling Home not just a respite facility, but it is a community for us. As parents, our emotional needs are met as we get to meet with ther parents in similar situations and have a safe place amongst parents with shared experiences to just… talk.” ~ Henry, DHK Dad.
Every dollar raised from Wheels will support core programming and services at The Darling Home for Kids.
