The Cancer Therapeutics Team at McGill University Health Centre has been eagerly working to design an effective and affordable strategy in a pre-clinical study testing FDA-approved drug (Auranofin) in glioblastoma, very aggressive type of brain tumor. 

This drug is readily available in prescription for another indication, well-known for its safety. Auranofin showed high efficacy against brain tumor stem cells when tested alone, with strong synergy when combined with radiation. In addition, Auranofin was effective against brain tumor stem cells, after they developed resistance to Radiation and Temodal. The team is working to advance this drug from Lab research in combination with Radiotherapy and Temodal to a clinical trial for patients diagnosed with glioblastoma.
