My Story…
On May 4, 2012, my world was turned upside down. I was a young mother of two toddlers, working full time as a litigation attorney. At age 36, I had a heart attack caused by spontaneous coronary artery dissection (a tear on the inside of the artery wall - NOT PLAQUE). Nobody knew anything about this kind of heart attack. It was thought to be rare, and I was TERRIFIED.
I was suffocated with fear each night when I went to bed that, in the morning, my family would find me gone. I'm not sure when that fear dissipated, but I know that a lot of my confidence in survival stemmed from the very important research that was being conducted at Mayo Clinic and beyond. Every $ you contribute to SCAD Research, Inc., goes to fund this very important research. While much has been learned in the last eleven years (thanks to your generous contributions), there is still so much more that needs to be researched to help raise awareness and help guide medical providers in best treatment practices for SCAD and the associated connective tissue disorder, Fibromuscular Dysplasia (FMD).
These fundraising endeavors are critical to improving the care to many, many, many more YOUNG women (and some men) who are diagnosed with SCAD heart attacks and Fibromuscular Dysplasia. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
