Dena Evans has been coaching for 25 years, working with runners of all ages and ability levels. A soccer and track & field athlete at Stanford in the 1990s, she was 2003 NCAA Coach of the Year as the Stanford Women's Cross Country team won the title, as well as the 2004 National Track & Field Assistant Coach of the Year in Women's Distance. Evans has served on 10 USATF international coaching staffs, including as the head coach for the women's team at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, and the Assistant Coach for Men's Distance at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon. For 16 years, she has directed the post-collegiate endurance group Peninsula Distance Club while working with a variety of youth, veteran, and high performance individual athletes. Along with Crystal Springs Uplands coach Albert Caruana, she previously co-directed the Bay Area Running Camp for youth and adults from 2011-2015, before restarting it this winter.
