RACE DAY DETAILS AND ATHLETE INSTRUCTIONS
O'CRUD 10K & 2.4 Mile Open Water Swim

7:00 AM - Check-in opens
8:00 AM - 10K begins
8:05 AM - 2.4 mile begins
Directions: Use 724 Elm Ave, Mt Holly, NC. Your GPS will likely take you to the stop sign just outside the venue. Go straight across the railroad tracks and down the hill towards the river.
Parking: There is plenty of parking on site at 724 Elm Ave, Mt Holly, NC.
Check-in:
- All swimmers must check in upon arrival.
- All swimmers must have their racer number marked on their calf and arm (or an area not covered by your wetsuit). We will have volunteers there to do that for you, or you are welcome to mark before you arrive. You will receive your racer number in an email on May 4, or we can provide it to you when you arrive. No need to remember it, but it will be sent ahead of time in case you want to do your own body marking.
- All swimmers will check in one more time as they enter the water.
Safety Kayakers - 10K:
- ALL 10K swimmers are required to have a one-on-one safety kayaker. If we have arranged one for you, we will connect you with your kayaker via email approximately 1-2 weeks before the race.
- If you are arranging your own kayaker, your kayaker MUST check in with race officials upon arrival.
Safety Kayakers - 2.4 Mile:
- There will be course monitors in kayaks along the 2.4 mile course.
Kayaks:
- If you rented a kayak from us, it will be waiting for you riverside when you arrive. If you are bringing your own kayak, feel free to pull up to the riverside to unload before going to park.
Water Temperature:
- We expect the water temperature to be around 68 degrees on race day. Last recorded temperature on April 29, 2024 was 67.28 F.
Wetsuits:
- We will follow what we believe are the most common wetsuit rules.
- 78 degrees or lower, wetsuit legal
- over 78 degrees, wetsuits can we worn but not award eligible
- 84 degrees or over, no wetsuits allowed
WEATHER POLICY:
- We will swim rain or shine! If dangerous weather such as thunder/lightning occurs, we will delay the start in increments of 30 minutes to wait for the weather to pass. If weather persists and we cannot safely begin the race, the race will be cancelled. There are no refunds for this race. The weather forecast as of April 30 does not predict any weather issues for race morning.
River Current:
- We expect there to be very little current on race day.
Amenities:
- There will be a portable restroom at the start/finish line.
- A changing tent will be available.
- Tyge will be cooking up his famous camp side breakfast after the race, so make sure to work up your appetite!
Course and time limits:
- This is an in-water treading gun start. You can view the course map HERE. There are NO time limits for this race.
- Buoys will be placed about every 500 yards on the course, and are positioned so that you can always see the next buoy.
Awards:
- Awards will be given to top 3 overall Male and Female winners for the 10K. There are no awards for the 2.4 mile but it will be timed.
