Help David raise money

Hello friends,

On Sunday, June 2nd, my family and I will joining the rest of my mom's team, CJ’s BadAss Crew, in Burlington for a 5K Bumrun walk/run to end colon cancer.

Bumrun has partnered again this year with the not-for-profit group CCRAN – Colorectal Cancer Resource & Action Network.  CCRAN is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of patients and caregivers through its patient support programs, awareness initiatives, and educational campaigns.

My mom, Carol Johnston (CJ), was diagnosed with Stage IV colorectal cancer in 2018.  After two major surgeries and many, many chemo sessions later, she is living the best life she can while doing the “cancer dance” with the support of family, friends, and CCRAN.  CCRAN has made a positive difference for her and her husband Jeff, as they navigate living with cancer.

This past March, my brother-in-law, Marc was diagnosed with colorectal cancer at the age of 48.  The incidence of colorectal cancer among adults under 50 years of age has climbed rapidly in recent years.  This alarming reality is a reminder that this disease is no longer one that affects just older people and attitudes toward it need to change, as does the age criteria for basic screening.  Organizations like CCRAN that promote awareness and advocacy are needed more than ever to help bring about that change.

I’d be grateful if you would consider helping the rest of CJ’s BadAss Crew and me raise funds for CCRAN.  Every dollar raised will be donated directly to CCRAN and used to further their patient programs, so they can help even more Canadians touched by or at risk of the disease.
