If you're doing the whole shebang, sheesh, bloody good job, it's a great ride!
Starting at the Old New South Wales bank, you'll quickly leave Ross on your way to Hokitika. It will be fast as you head onto the old Ross Rail route, this is straight, and you can get up some great speed here. You'll cross the Totara Bridge built in 1908 just for this race, shame it' took 109-years to organise it for yah! "BANG it's been closed, as they say the old girl isn't safe anymore" maybe too many cyclists going over it? No trains been over it for a while either.
We now have a change of route to get around this closure.
We will still start at the same location, and we will ride down SH6 for 8km and enter a property and ride passed the house and sheds, then on to a newly formed trail and road "just for the ride" and out into a subdivision and out to SH6 and back on to the trail. Big thanks to the locals for this, good buggers on the West Coast aren't they!
Once back on the trail you'll ride about 1.5km beside the State Highway 6. After you turn on to Woodstock Road you'll have a bit of tar-seal and then into the fantastic Mahinapua Tramline. This will have you thinking you're part of nature, taking you through wetlands and boardwalks and along past the water ways, all the way through to the Golf Course, and then across the Hokitika River Bridge, DO NOT Ride on the Bridge carrige way, you ride on the cycle way across the bridge. Then you do a complete U-Turn as you cme off the Bridge, go under the bridge and follow the newly formed trail down passed the milk factory.
Watch your head as you go under the Bridge "DUCK" if you don't you may end up in the river with the Ducks.
Continue to follow the trail up to as per the Hurunui Jacks and then along the Kaniere Tramline toward Cowboy Paradise.
Those riders doing it as a Team of 4 will change over at Hokitika, at Wadeson Island Entrance the start line for the Hokitika to Greymouth race. Cowboy Paradise and Kumara.
Those riders doing as a Term of 2 will change over at Cowboy Paradise.
This leg is an easy journey, suitable for cyclists of all ages.
There will be transport to the start at Ross and Hokitika before the event. Leaving Monteith's Brewery Greymouth at 6:00am sharp. This is non refundable or transferrable.
Cut off for all rides to be finished is 4:00pm
