My Story…
One year ago, I walked in the Boston Firefighters Memorial Road Race to honor my stepfather, FLT. Ed Bergdoll, and the brave men and women of the Boston Fire Department. It was a day filled with camaraderie, resilience, and hope. Little did I know, it would also be a turning point in my own life. A little over a month later, I received a life-changing diagnosis of multiple sclerosis.
Looking back, I understand now why I felt so off during last year’s race. I was unknowingly battling something within me. Since then, MS has reshaped my world. Walking—something I once took for granted—has become a challenge. Balance comes and goes, but my determination to honor Eddie and the firefighters remains steady.
On October 13th, 2024, at Florian Hall in Dorchester, I will once again lace up my shoes for the BFD Local 718 10K Memorial Road Race. This year, I walk with heavier legs but an even stronger heart. I walk for Eddie, whose legacy pushes me forward when my body feels weak. I walk for the firefighters who put their lives on the line, and I walk for the Relief Fund, who supported my family when Eddie was taken from us.
This year’s race will test me more than ever, but I am determined to finish. I need your support. Please consider donating to our team, Friends and Family of Lt. Ed Bergdoll, and help us reach our goal. Every dollar honors those within the firefighting community and supports the families who rely on the fund.
