Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth

All proceeds from the race go to the Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth (USAY). USAY is an Indigenous-led organization that supports urban Indigenous youth ages 12 to 29 years that live in the City of Calgary. For many years, the Calgary Women’s Run and USAY have partnered to make positive change in the community through various programs. Our aim is to tackle ‘period poverty’ in the City by providing ‘Moon Time Kits’. Each kit contains menstrual, hygiene and comfort items to support those who menstruate but are experiencing financial constraints. The kits focus on wellness, health and hygiene, by providing pads, tampons, wipes, deodorant, soothing tea and other items. Donations from the Calgary Women’s Run go toward purchasing items for the kits, and USAY’s Indigenous young women assemble them and distribute to those who need them, including those that are houseless or at-risk of houselessness.
