2024 ESSEX CENTURION
Solo Cycling Challenge
Welcome to the 5th annual ESSEX CENTURION!
Since 2020 Essex Centurions have rolled over 109,000k and raised over $9,000 for worthwhile causes. Let the adventure continue!
On June 15th, the Kelly-Ann Grand Départ Ride kicked off this year's challenge. (On that day alone there were 113 100k completions and 11,300 kms were added to the all-time tally of mileage)
WHEN: June 15 - Sep 15, 2024
WHY? The event routes (such as the classic EC Way 100) have been planned considering enjoyment & comfort first and foremost. "EC" routes help cyclists build confidence and get to places that are further afield. If riding is just as much about the journey as the destination, then this event will help you discover great ways to bike around Windsor-Essex.
WHO? The event attracts a very wide spectrum of cyclists, each challenging themself by pushing out their own personal boundaries.
There are many ways to challenge yourself: a multi-day completion (the June 15th SLOW ROLL event can count as mileage towards that) and a new all-paved Kelly-Ann Way 100k loop for roadies. Again, there's also the EKG-300 (with some improvements) and the Classic ECW100 for the purists! Details can be found in the ROUTES, RULES AND POINTS sections.
Some set a goal to complete the challenge once. Others set a goal to vie for becoming the Essex Centurion champion. To become the champion requires riding thousands of kilometres. The physical demand and mental strength it takes to ride again, again and again (mostly) solo is HUGE.
