If you've conquered a half-marathon and you need a new goal, why not try the Julians Berry Farm and Cafe Toi's Challenge? Held every November, Toi's Challenge is one of Whakatane's most iconic annual events. It follows the beautiful Nga Tāpuwae o Toi track, named after a Māori chief who ruled the area about 800 years ago.
At 18km, Toi's is a bit shorter than a half-marathon, but the rugged terrain makes it a good deal harder. The stunning coastal and bush scenery provides plenty of distractions if you need it.
The 2024 event will be held on Sunday, November 24 and is run by the Whakatane Athletics and Harriers Club.
