Blue Bully Update
Hi |*FIRST_NAME*|,
Thanks again for signing up. If you missed the last email update, you can find it here: https://raceroster.com/events/2025/101617/blue-bully-ultra/page/race-update-september-19
I promised an update for yesterday, but I wanted to hold off because of a pending course update. We are meeting with one of the resort stakeholders about some maintenance that is being done on their property, and working on a diversion. After that, the course update will be ready. So expect another update this week.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We're still looking for a whole whack of volunteers, especially on Saturday. It's going to have a fun time, and we have great swag for our volunteers. We aren't giving them a t-shirt for their trouble – they are getting a custom fleece blanket plus other goodies!
Volunteers make the race so much better, so volun-tell everyone you know to sign up!
WHAT'S IN A NAME?
We, at Sinister Sports, are pretty well known in western Canada, and a few of our inaugural Bullies have raced with us before, but maybe some introductions are in order.
I have been hosting endurance events for 24 years now, and it really is an integral part of who I am as a living, breathing, soulful meat sack. :D Nothing fulfils me more than being around the energy of a race, even through all the... organic and fluid challenges that occur.
All of our crew have an array of experience in sports or sports management. We have everyone from grass-roots trail runners to semi-pro competitors on our team. We are a small crew, but we're mighty!
Why did we start up races in Ontario? That's a good question and a bit complex to answer, because it isn't just one thing. I love to explore; next to the race energy, it's about exploring wild places, and immersing myself in the local culture. All of our crew share that same longing for adventure. For many years, I've wanted to have a cross-Canada series that celebrates places I have grown to love. Some of our future host sites and venues are places I know well, and others are places I want to explore. It's a passion for adventure that drives us all forward.
So what prompted us to start Blue Bully? While I'm from Alberta, I have family connections in Collingwood and Wasaga Beach, through my wife, Sarah. We have spent a lot of time visiting the area, and I still see it with the bright eyes and rapture of a tourist. Others on our crew grew up there, and have a lot of friends in the area. That is where the connection started. When looking for a home for our new 200-miler, back in 2024, we had extensive discussions with Blue Mountain Resort about having that event start and finish there. After pouring over maps, and talking about permits, we realized that a big race like a 200-miler would have a hard time due to the private land all around, and it should be extremely wild and rugged. So that didn't fit, but we had developed such a great rapport with Blue that we did not want to stop working with them. We then realized it would be a perfect venue for a stage race, which we have been wanted to organize for a long time.
So the name comes from Blue Mountain, which is obvious. The bully part is a bit of a tongue-in-cheek reference to my western roots, growing up in cattle country. It's also about the style and attitude we bring to our races. To be frank, the 25k and especially 50k are gonna beat y'all up a little bit. We like the grit. We find joy in adversity. We celebrate the sufferfest. Now this race isn't going to steal your lunch money or anything, but it's tough. You'll love it. Standby for the course description update with some of the wilder spots you will see.
