My Story…
Being diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in December of 2022 at the age of 41, was one of the most surprising events in my life. There was no family history of breast cancer, and since my 40 birthday I had been religious about my every 6 month mammograms. Since being diagnosed I've had a hysterectomy, been on 2 different immunotherapy drugs, 3 different chemo medications, lost my hair twice, and conquered a slew of side effects from all of this. I'm still here living each day to my fullest.
While we have never hid my cancer from my 12 year old son, we never discussed "metastatic" or that it was incurable until after last year's walk, when while listening to the speeches he became aware that this cancer was a forever thing. My goal in walking and raising funds is to help others not have these conversations. Stage 4 needs more awareness, education, and clinical trials. We need a cure.
I'm not waiting to die, I'm fighting to live every day.
