I Run to Cure CF!
My favorite part of the Pittsburgh marathon is participating in the run for a reason charity program. This adds a greater purpose to my training and helps to raise awareness about the multiple charities supported here in Pittsburgh.
The charity that is close to my heart is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and I will be joining the Breathe Team again this year.
My first job as a nurse was caring for patients with CF. These patients taught me how to fight for what is important in life, to never take anything for granted, and to appreciate those who are close to your heart.
By joining the Breathe Team, my goals are to help raise awareness and to raise money to help find a cure.
Description
Cystic fibrosis is a rare, genetic disease found in about 40,000 people in the U.S. causing persistent lung infections and limiting the ability to breath over time. Those living with this disease are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, friends, and co-workers --all struggling each day just to breathe and live normal, healthy lives.
While there has been significant progress in treating this disease, there is still no cure and too many lives are cut far too short. By participating in the Pittsburgh Marathon on behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, I run to help add tomorrows to the lives of all people living with cystic fibrosis today.
