SOO 200 UPDATE
Hi |*FIRST_NAME*|,
This is it! I'll probably reach out one more time if anything new comes up, but here are some final updates.
If you missed the previous updates, they are all on the SOO 200 registration page: https://raceroster.com/events/2025/97844/soo-200.

CONDITIONS + COURSE UPDATE
The Sault area is currently under a smoke advisory, but hopefully that will be lifted in the next few days as the conditions improve. The area itself isn't under any sort of threat of wildfires, and the fire risk is LOW. This is something we definitely have to worry about, and it's really hard with smoke because it just moves with the weather. We typically do not operate when the AQHI is above 6. If it's 7, but decreasing in the forecast, we will consider suspending operations briefly, or just powering through. If it's consistently 8 or above, it is really difficult to ask volunteers, crew, and racers to be out there. We are watching it closely.
We have had feet on the course a few times, but more recent recon work has shown us that a few bridges are out in more remote areas. There is also a wash-out on one road that. This will mean a different approach to getting to at least one checkpoint, and we may have to move a CP or two around a bit to accommodate. One section of trail has grown in particularly brushy this year, so we will decide this week if that is acceptable. While I personally don't mind bushwhacking, I know that this is a running race. If not, we reroute a bit. The flagging crew will assess when they get there, starting tomorrow, but it will be a few days until we know for sure.
We will be assessing the trail conditions on King Mountain (Stokely trails) this week, just to be sure that we are confident that it is safe. There are lots of routes around the mountain, so we have options if the trail conditions are lower than expected.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We still need a number of volunteers, so make sure you spread the word!
