SOO 200 UPDATE
Hi |*FIRST_NAME*|,
The clock is ticking down and we are just over a month away from the first SOO 200! As with any new event, I am sure there are a lot of questions. I do receive texts and emails from competitors, which is great because it helps me understand what people are thinking. So let's knock off a bunch of these all at once.
RACE DETAILS
With the new course being finalized, we are ready to publish more information about the event.
Q: How do I add a support crew or pacer to my registration?
A: These two things are handled differently. To add support crew information and pacer details, which is not mandatory (we just want a general idea of how many crew packages to print, and how many pacers are coming), you should be able to go into your account on Race Roster, log in, go into the event, and then update your details.
To sign up your pacers, there is an additional step in registering them for the race. Have them go to the Race Roster event page, and they sign for the Pacer sub-event, which is free. Both of these tasks can be done here: https://raceroster.com/events/2025/97844/soo-200.
Q: Where can I find instructions for my support crew?
A: We have a page dedicated to Support Crew and Pacer information. This includes newly minted driving directions. https://www.sinistersports.ca/soo200/support
Q: Can I have a drop bag if I have a support crew, in case they do not make it in time.
A: Yes, for sure. Drop bags are left with us on Sunday night or Saturday morning of the race. The crews have ample time to move between the three supported CPs, but emergencies happen, so no problem.
Q: What happened with the train? How do I get from Sault Ste. Marie to the start line?
A: The train has a minimum charge to charter, and with only 22 people racing, it was not feasible for either them or us. We hope to reintroduce it next year or beyond, with the home and intention to enlist more runners.
We will be chartering an appropriately sized vehicle (bus or other) to bring runners to Searchmont for the start. I will be reaching out to each of you to find out if you want a ride up, or if you will make your way there on you own. If you have a support crew, it makes sense to have them drive up with you, but maybe they do not want to get up so early. ;)
Q: Is the check-in and meal still at the Bush Plane Heritage Centre?
A: Yes, that has not changed. Check out the details page here: https://www.sinistersports.ca/soo200/details.
Q: Is the start time for sure 8:00am on Monday?
A: Yes. With the race no longer starting with a four-hour train ride, it's no longer necessary to start it later.
Q: How strict are the cutoff times?
A: We do think these cutoffs are fair and reasonable. At some point, if you aren't getting the distance covered in time, the math is just against you. People do not generally speed up during a race, they get slower. That said, if we notice that large groups of competitors are going to get cut off, we will make adjustments as soon as we can. Usually, we will give notice at a preceding CP. The cutoff times are on the course page.
Q: How do I get extra meal tickets for the pre- and post-race meals?
A: See below!
RIDES TO SEARCHMONT
Do you need a ride to Searchmont? I will text everyone, but if you fill out the form, it will give me a good idea right away. https://forms.gle/4VcQEjunfQNhymbW6
EXTRA MEAL TICKETS
You can pick up extra meal tickets here. Before you get sticker shock, please note that we're not marking this up - we are just charging what the meal costs us. :D The price on the website also includes all taxes, so there is nothing on top.
Pre-race (Sunday): https://dirtverthurt.com/products/2025-soo-pre-race-meal-sunday-july-20
Post-race (Friday): https://dirtverthurt.com/products/2025-soo-post-race-meal-friday-july-25
Please order your tickets by no later than July 5.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Races like this cannot happen without volunteers, so volun-tell your friends and family to sign up! We give great swag to everyone, like fleece blankets, and they also get to join us for a race meal. https://www.sinistersports.ca/soo200/volunteer
ICYMI, pre-order these fly MarsQuest shades through our online store, Dirt Vert Hurt, and pick them up at check-in. They make great gifts for support crews. 😉
See you soon!
Kind regards,
