WHAT IS A VIRTUAL RUN?
A virtual run/walk is a bit different than an in-person event. Run on your own terms. There are no parking problems. No crowds. No long porta-potty lines. There is no start gun or nervous pre-race chit chat with other runners. You can run or walk your distance anywhere, on any surface and anytime in the race window. The beauty of a virtual event is that two people could run the same race together at the same time and on the same day, but they can do it on opposite sides of the country. You still get all the awesome swag and access to all the online privileges that in-person registrants receive, but you get to run where and when you want. Feeling competitive, no problem! You have the option of automatically or manually uploading your time to our leaderboard. Below are the steps to follow for a virtual event.
1. REGISTER
Register online HERE for the virtual race of your choice – 12K Run or 12K Walk.
2. RACE PACKAGE
When you register, you can choose in-person Package Pick-up for your package or pay a fee to have your package mailed directly to your house. If you select Package Pick-up, you will receive some extra treats as there are some items that we cannot include in the mail out packages. Package Pick-up details can be found on the FAQ page. We will also send out an email approximately two weeks prior to remind you of the place, dates, and times. If you paid to have your race package mailed out, we are aiming to have all packages shipped by Friday November 21 so that your swag arrives prior to the virtual race window. Please note that we are not responsible for non-deliveries or lost swag due to participant error.
3. TIME TO RUN
Set a time to run or walk during the race period – Dec 1-12. Choose your own starting line. Pick your favourite place to run and map out where you need to go in order to run/walk your distance. You can run or walk either alone or with a group of friends on a pathway, trail, or treadmill. It’s all about setting a goal to complete the race distance. Remember to download the Runkeeper app and sync this event to your account - then you just need to turn it on when you’re about to run/walk in order to track your time. If you use the Runkeeper app, your time will automatically load to our Leaderboard. If you use a different running app, you have the option of uploading your time and a screenshot manually to the Leaderboard. Detailed instructions will be sent to all participants prior to the virtual race window.
4. SHARE
Keep the community feel by sharing your accomplishments online. After you complete your 12K's, put that hard-earned medal around your neck and take a selfie. Please share your accomplishment with the Run Calgary community on social media by tagging @RUNCALGARY and use the hashtag #12KsofChristmas.
