The Christchurch Motorway Half Marathon is being held on Sunday 22nd February 2026, starting and finishing at the Canterbury A & P Park. Historically it has started and finished at Nga Puna Wai but with the International Track Meeting (ITM) now being held over 2 days we have had to move the start and Finish. .


This is an amazing course and with no vehicles, this allows you to concentrate on your run or walk. You will be able to see vehicles racing past on the motorway as you enjoy the relaxing fast run.


Christchurch Motorway Half Marathon will cater for all runners; whether you’re a beginner or an elite runner, this fast-flat course will give you the opportunity to do one of the fastest half’s, 10km or 5km you’ve ever done.


There will be a walking section in all 3 events the 5km, 10km & Half Marathon. With the Kidz Dash being a 2km run.


Start Times

  • The start times are as follows:
  • Wave 1 - 8:30am - All Walkers and Hybrid Participants
  • Wave 2 - 9:00am - All Runners

  • Wave 3 - 9:05am - The Kidz Dash 2km on the track


Countdown to event

About

The Christchurch Motorway Half Marathon will see the runners run the Christchurch Southern Motorway on the cycle and walking paths.
There are drink stations at the approximate 4km, 9km, 12km and 17km marks.










Half Marathon - 21km
Starting at the Canterbury A& P Park in Christchurch. You will spread out in the surrounds of the park before exiting on to the pathways of the Southern Motorway, which will take you along the fast pathways of the motorway. There are no real corners to worry about as the course flows throughout. There is one Stop/Go control as you cross Marsh's Road on the way out and back.
There will be 1km markers throughout the event for the Half Marathon.





10km & 5km
The 5km &10km runners will start at the same time as the Half Marathon runners and will spread out in the surrounds of the park before exiting on to the pathways of the Southern Motorway, where you will travel on a fast out and back course, with no vehicles to worry about.



Walkers/Hybrid
Walkers and Hybrid competitors will start 30 minutes before the runners start. We ask all runners during the event to let walkers know if they’re coming up on them. Walkers, please be aware of runners coming up on you throughout the event.
Hybrid competitors can run and walk when they like, although we ask that competitors don't run the full distance as this isn't in the spirit of the category. This is mainly for walkers that might want to run a bit.
