For years, my father has been fighting a battle that many people (including myself) don’t fully understand macular degeneration. It’s a condition that slowly takes away central vision, making everyday things like reading, recognizing faces, or even enjoying a sunset increasingly difficult. Watching someone you love lose pieces of their independence is incredibly hard. My father has always been energetic, strong, and self-reliant. He continues to enjoy life, but the reality is that this disease brings daily challenges that wear him down and prevent him from doing certain things.
