Mental Health Matters 5K & Festival Event Volunteers
We are so excited to have this event for our Charlotte community but we cannot do it alone!
We are in need of volunteers and are so grateful for any and all help we receive.
We thank you for choosing to assist and take on a role in this exciting event. We cannot do it without the support from our community and volunteers and we are thankful for you.
Volunteers will receive official race shirts
We will need assistance with the following but not limited to:
- Water stations
- Handing out medals
- Cheer squad
- Directing runners at designated course locations
- Directing participants from the parking lot towards bridge/venue
- Helping vendors with set-up at designated location
- Packet-pickup (Sunday morning prior to event start time) checking in registrants and handing them assigned bib prior to race with tshirt

Please read this email in full as it contains important details and information for the day of vendor set-up. This info has also been added to the volunteer section of the race site.

Location and Arrival:
Event day: Sunday May 17th
Location & Address: McAlpine Creek Park
8711 Monroe Rd, Charlotte, NC 28212
Event Start time: 9:00am 5K Start. 10:30 AM Fun Run Start. Event end time 1pm
Check-in for ALL volunteer positions:
Once you enter the park from the bridge please check-in at the vendor check-in booth which is at the pavilion/shelter. Here you will receive your tshirt and meet with a Start2Finish (S2F) Event Management staff member directing you to your role/responsibilities.
Volunteer Arrival Times/Tasks:
Packet Pick-up Volunteers: Please arrive by 6:00 AM and report directly to the pavilion/shelter to meet a S2F staff member. Packet Pickup will be from 6:30-9:00 am prior to the race start. Please arrive no later than 6am so that the event management staff can instruct you on how to operate the table
Helping vendors set up: Please arrive by 6:45 AM and report directly to the pavilion/shelter to meet a S2F staff member.
Water Stop/Water Finish: Please arrive by 8:15 AM and report directly to the pavilion/shelter to meet a S2F staff member. We will require volunteers at our water stop mid race and also post race at the finish line to pass out water and Hop2O to all finishers.
Course Monitors: Please arrive by 8:15 AM and report directly to the pavilion/shelter to meet a S2F staff member.
Handing out medals post race and kids fun run gifts: Please arrive by 8:45 AM and report directly to the pavilion/shelter to meet a S2F staff member. You will be unpackaging medals from plastic wrap and moving them to the finish stands ready to pass them out.
We will also have to move medals to the fun run start along with water bottles which starts at 10:30 am
Managing Raffles at MHM Nonprofit table: *this year we will not have raffles but would love assistance with an activity at our booth. Please arrive at the shelter by 9:30 AM and you will be directed to Erica Meisner for instructions. At MHM Tent there will be instructions for a flower planting activity
FAQs/Other Important Info:
Will I receive community service hours/credit?
If you need approval for community service hours, please provide your forms for approval/signature post race either in person or follow up email post event.
Will there be bathrooms?
The park has a restroom at the very entrance of the park, near the parking lot. There will be port-a-potties at the field where the event takes place.
Will there be water?
Help yourself to the water bottles that are located at the pavilion/shelter at the packet pickup/check in location. These are for all our volunteers.
When will I receive my t-shirt for volunteering: You will receive your free t-shirt at the check–in process
What is the parking situation?: We recommend carpooling if possible! Parking available in event parking lot
Share/Promote:
Help make this a success by sharing however you prefer by word of mouth, social media, etc to help inform the public you will be attending our event as a vendor and that they should come out and support! *The festival is a FREE community event open to the public regardless of 5K participation and we want our Charlotte community to show up and show out!
Medical Support:
We will have one EMT/Paramedic on site for 2 hours starting at 9am.
FESTIVAL: Bring a form of payment to enjoy the festivities!! Over 70+ vendors to enjoy and support!
