Mon histoire…
This October 11 I will be once again running the Beneva half marathon (after saying I would never run a half again!). What changed my mind? Well this year, I decided to run for more than my own finish line.
Homelessness in Montreal has risen sharply: an estimated 4,690 people were living without stable housing in the city as of 2022, a 33% jump from 2018. Women now make up 29% of that population, up from 23% just a few years earlier, and the resources built for them haven’t caught up. Pre-pandemic, only 148 of the city’s 845 shelter beds were for women. Even as total capacity has grown, women’s share of it hasn't had the chance to keep up.
That’s why I’m running for Chez Doris, a Montreal women’s shelter that’s been offering a safe, inclusive, and judgement free space to vulnerable women since 1977. Chez Doris offers meals, clothing, housing support, and a place where women in crisis are met with dignity and respect.
Chez Doris believes that "people grow and thrive when they know themselves, can be their authentic selves, and believe in themselves". Every donation goes directly to keeping that door open for the next woman who needs it. If the cause speaks to you, please consider donating and encouraging me on my run, every bit counts!
