My Story…
I chose to run this marathon because I volunteer at the Vascular Health Unit (a lab) and the work feels deeply personal. The research focuses on conditions that often develop quietly, without obvious warning, whether it’s preeclampsia, which can suddenly turn a hopeful pregnancy into a frightening medical emergency, or atherosclerosis, a disease that can build over years before revealing itself in devastating ways.
Being in the lab has made the stakes feel real. Behind every sample and every experiment is a person, a family, and a future that could look very different with earlier understanding and better tools. I want experience the difference it makes when we catch problems before they reach their breaking point.
I’m raising money for this lab because I believe in protecting people before a crisis happens. Supporting this research means standing behind the quiet, persistent work that helps keep parents, families, and communities safer, and gives people a better chance at healthy lives. It also means supporting the graduate students and scientists who dedicate countless stressful hours to this life-saving work, often behind the scenes.
