My Story…
I will be running, perhaps walking, to raise awareness for a clinic that personifies an aspect of the humanity required within our health care system when caring for the sickest of the sick.
Critically ill patients have a story to tell, one that can shed light into the environmental effects a patient and their family often face in an ICU as the multi-disciplinary team cares for them. The Critical Illness Recovery Centre clinic allows these patients, and their loved ones, to share and understand that story, in a safe place, by clinicians who fully comprehend the many variables that may affect that journey from their admission to discharge, including the recovery period when they return home.
Being involved with the CIRC clinic will change a clinician's approach at the bedside, in, or outside of the room, to recognize that there’s a person instead of an illness lying in the bed, one who has a life history that’s now on pause, and that the family present are worried about him.
