Cell Phones for Soldiers (CPFS) is a national nonprofit dedicated to providing free communication services to active-duty service members and veterans. Founded in 2004, CPFS has distributed more than 8 million prepaid calling cards to deployed troops worldwide, delivering over 450 million minutes of talk time so they can stay connected with loved ones while serving abroad.

Today, CPFS has evolved to address one of the most urgent challenges facing veterans: access to reliable communication. In 2024, we launched Cell Phones for Soldiers Mobile, a program that provides at-risk, low-income, and homeless veterans with free smartphones and one full year of unlimited talk, text, and data.

We created CPFS Mobile because too many veterans remain disconnected from the very resources designed to support them. A phone is often the first and most critical step toward accessing housing, employment, healthcare, and family support. 

CPFS Mobile serves as a vital bridge, connecting veterans directly with service providers, including partners like the Massachusetts VA, and helping ensure no veteran is left without a lifeline.

Currently, CPFS Mobile has 14,500 phones and active veteran lines, with a goal of connecting 20,000 veterans by the end of 2026.

We lose an average of 22 veterans each day to suicide, with isolation and loneliness among the leading contributing factors. By restoring connection, CPFS Mobile directly addresses this crisis, helping veterans rebuild relationships, access care, and regain stability.

A donation of just $50 provides a veteran with a smartphone and one month of unlimited service. For every $250 raise, an at-risk veteran is connected with a smartphone and 1 year of unlimited talk, text and data.
