Our story…

The Massachusetts Nurses Honor Guard (MA-NHG) is a respected non-profit 501(c)(3) organization committed to honoring and supporting the nursing profession.

In 2021, the staff at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center was devastated by the tragic loss of their friend and colleague Ann O’Flaherty, a dedicated nurse who had served the hospital since 1988. To honor Ann’s lifelong commitment to nursing, the Massachusetts Nurses Honor Guard was founded in her memory under the name "Ann O’s Watch." Through this initiative, we pay tribute to nurses who have passed by attending commemorative services, including visitations, memorial masses, hospice services, celebrations of life, and graveside ceremonies. Each of these moments is an opportunity to recognize the extraordinary contributions of nurses to the profession.

In addition to honoring those who have passed, the Massachusetts Nurses Honor Guard supports nurses in their continued professional growth by providing grants and awards to those currently working or advancing their education in the field of nursing.

Your generosity is instrumental in allowing us to continue our mission: to celebrate the legacy of nurses who have given so much to the healthcare community, and to empower future generations of nurses by supporting their education and career development.
