SOO 200 Update
Hi |*FIRST_NAME*|,
I have been getting all the feedback and all the questions, and here is a big update. My appologies for not communicating more. We lean heavily into social media to answer questions, but updates like these are just as important.
Joelle, our east-of-Alberta race director, has been calling all of the 200-milers to give them an update, but I will recap everything here. There is a big update to the website as well, so let me know if I missed anything. This includes:
- Tables with point-to-point distances for your planning
- Course maps
- GPX files
- Updated schedule

COURSE CHANGES
All of the courses are changing a bit to make the race flow better, but they are not so different from the originals... except the 200-miler. As Joelle mentioned on the phone, it's really hard to get enough staff into the more remote areas of the course. If we had more 200-mile runners, it wouldn't be an issue, but right now the cost is prohibitive. We refuse to cut quality or safety measures (like having medics available), so we have modified the course to be centred. around Stokely Creek Lodge, which will help make the event more manageable. On top of that, it turns out there is a lot of new logging activity in the area to the north, so we are going to play it safe.
It's a great area and a great course, so we are excited to bring you all together.
The courses are now online, including GPX files. You can take a look and upload them to your device. At a glance, the loops may look confusing, but it flows really nicely. A few notes:
- Everybody starts at Stokely Creek Lodge
- The 200-miler and 100-miler will do an out-and-back to a scenic waterfall on the first section of the race – this is done to adjust the distance, but it's a really nice waterfall!
- The 200-milers will do four long loops after that; these trails are the best in the area and include highlights like King Mountain, Robertson Cliffs, and Bone Lake
- You will now be able to have a primo setup for your drop bag or support crew at Stokely Creek Lodge
- You can have one other drop bag at Mystery Lake checkpoint, which is about 1/3 of the way into the loops
- We are trying to get another drop bag location at the Norm's Cabin checkpoint, but it's really tough to get there... so no promises on that one; either way, Norm's cabin is a fantastic spot with a beautiful cabin
- There will be five checkpoints:
- King Mountain (safety check only + you get your tokens here)
- Mystery Lake (food, supplies, and drop bags!)
- Norm's Cabin (food and supplies)
- Cliffside water drop (water only, unmanned)
- Stokely Creek Lodge – this is the big setup with all the food and fun things
- Cutoff times have been added – there are not many, we just want to be sure you have enough time to do your last loop
- Pacers, if you have them, may join their runner after their first loop... normally we do not allow pacers for 100k and 100-mile events, but let's get nuts!

SEND YOUR VOLUNTEERS!
Races like SOO 200 are nothing without volunteers. Volun-tell your friends and family to sign up to watch you toil in the woods. They all get some premium swag, like a fleece blanket and a hat or shirt, and dinner with the athletes.
Sign them up here: https://www.sinistersports.ca/soo200/volunteer

I'll have another update next week, once we get more questions. Taper hard and we will see you soon!
Kind regards,
Brian Gallant
