The Mark McLane Spirit of Community Award
Up to three recipients may be recognized each year whose actions embody the spirit of Just Live and the qualities Mark McLane brought to our community.
Recipients may include:
A participant who, despite personal challenge or adversity, demonstrates remarkable perseverance and embodies what it means to Choose Hard.
An individual or team who brings joy, positivity, and connection to others, embodying what it means to Chase Joy.
A community member who strengthens the Just Live spirit through kindness, presence and meaningful connection.
In March 2026, our community lost Mark McLane. While we continue to feel his absence, we also celebrate the remarkable way he showed up for the people and community he cared so deeply about.
As our local MLA, Mark was a steadfast supporter of the Just Live Fun Run from its early days. Each year, he showed up not simply as a public representative, but as a member of our Just Live community — personally handing out medals, connecting with participants and championing the spirit of the event.
One moment, in particular, continues to resonate deeply with us.
At the 2025 Just Live Fun Run, Mark remained at the finish line until the very last participant crossed — long after most others had left — to make sure the participant received the same recognition, encouragement and celebration as everyone who came before them.
It was a simple gesture, but it captured so much of who Mark was. He understood that every story matters and every finish line deserves to be celebrated.
The Mark McLane Spirit of Community Award honours those who carry that same spirit forward — people who show us what it means to Chase Joy, Choose Hard, and Just Live.
