My Story…
This October, I’m taking part in the Ned’s Wish Heroes Run with my brother. As siblings and first responders, this felt like a really fitting cause for us to support together.
Ned’s Wish supports retired police and military service dogs across Canada by helping with veterinary care and other health-related costs once their working years are over. These dogs dedicate years to serving alongside their handlers, and both the dogs and the people who work with them do incredibly important jobs for our communities.
The bulldog in my photo is Chief, our family dog who passed away in August 2023. I’ve always been a huge dog person, and through my job I also get to work alongside police dog teams. Seeing the work these dogs and their handlers do firsthand has given me an even greater appreciation for the critical role they play in keeping our communities safe.
This year’s Heroes Run honours RCMP Police Dog Bandit, who was killed in the line of duty in 2000 while serving alongside his handler, Cpl. Rick Mosher. Being able to take part in an event that honours Bandit’s service while also supporting retired service dogs makes this cause especially meaningful to me.
My brother and I are fundraising together as Off Duty Dawgs, with a team goal of $300. Any support is really appreciated, whether that’s donating, sharing our page, or cheering us on.
Thank you!
