RUN THE PLAINS MOREE 2026
In 2026, Tourism Moree have again proudly partnered with Little Athletics Moree to bring a regional running festival – Run the Plains – to the Moree community and competitors from surrounding regions. Experience regional running at its best in Australia's Artesian Spa Capital.
FRIDAY 25th SEPTEMBER 2026 – Moree CBD
Tear up the town to set the pace for the Run the Plains weekend with the Kamilaroi Kiddos Dash, Community K and Kamilaroi K.
Friday night’s events to commence from 6pm in the following order:
- Kamilaroi Kiddos Dash 3 years and under
- Kamilaroi Kiddos Dash 4-5 years
- All Ages Community K
- Kamilaroi K: Wheelchair/Accessible/Prams, 6-9 years, 10-12 years, 13-16 years, Open Ladies 17-59 years, Open Men 17-59 years, 60+ years
Categories are based on age turned in 2026. Please be prepared to marshal at least two events prior to your start group for smooth running of the evening.
All 1-kilometre events begin and end at the intersection of Balo and Heber Streets. The 200m Kiddos Dash commences at the pedestrian crossing near Pitman Deakin.
Kamilaroi Kiddos Dash: 200m dash for children aged 5 years and under, run in two heats (3 years and under, followed by 4-5 years). Entrants will receive a race bib and official time, however there are no cash prizes for this event. Please arrive by 5.45pm for marshalling.
Community K: A non-competitive, all ages 1 kilometre event, where the focus is on hitting the pavement to take part across all ages and abilities. All entry fees from the Community K in 2026 will be donated to Gwydir Industries. Entrants will receive a race bib and official time, however there are no cash prizes for this event. Please arrive by 6pm for marshalling.
S&L Girard Grader Hire Kamilaroi K: A one kilometre sprint race through the Moree CBD, with cash prizes and medals for first to third place getters in each category race.
Newpave Teams Tournament: When registering for any Friday night event, participants have the option to create or join a team. Teams can be any collection of at least three participants – for example, colleagues, neighbours, teammates, classmates, family or friends. Category champions to be crowned across Best Represented School, Village, Corporate and Community Group, with winners selected based on number of participants, spirit, presence and creativity. Entering within a team is entirely optional.
The evening promises an exhilarating display of running and community spirit. Bring the whole family along to cheer on the athletes and enjoy Moree’s main street hospitality.
Presentations for all events will be held at the conclusion of the last race, at approximately 7.30pm.
Balo Street will be closed to traffic on Friday 25/9/2026 from 5-9pm from the Gwydir Street to Albert Street intersections to accommodate this event. Ample parking is available in adjacent streets.
SATURDAY 26th SEPTEMBER 2025 – Visitor Information Centre, Lyle Houlahan Park, 67 Alice St, Moree
Continue the action on Saturday with a full morning of events at Run the Plains, traversing scenic pathways surrounding the Mehi River through the heart of Moree.
There is a distance on offer to suit everyone. There are no time limits for finishing, with exception of the 36.1km Triple (see below for details), so you can enjoy the day at your pace. Courses are suitable for prams, being predominately concrete pathways with the exception of 500m of fine gravel along Victoria Terrace.
On-course facilities for participants will include water, electrolytes, energy gels, first aid and toilets. Runners can rejuvenate at the finish line with free access to contrast therapy and recovery nutrition with Alpha Omega Recovery’s mobile services. A range of food and drink vendors will be on-site to fuel both participants and spectators.
Presentations for all events will be held at the conclusion of the last race, approximately 11.30am, in the race precinct near the Visitor Information Centre. Cash prizes will be awarded for male and female age category place getters, based on age turned in 2026.
Inland Vegetation Management Triple: Stack the Half Marathon, 10km and 5km events for a total of 36.1km. Time cut-offs apply, with competitors required to finish each event prior to the start time of the following event: 2 hours for 21.1km, 1 hour for 10km, unlimited time to complete the final 5km.

McGregor Gourlay Agricultural Services Half Marathon: Take on three scenic laps through the heart of Moree, including a climb up Moree’s steepest hill! With constant crowd energy and support never far away, this 21.1km course is perfect for seasoned runners or those ticking off their first half.
Time: 7:00am

Cash Prize Categories: 17+ Male & Female
B&W Rural 10km: Two laps along the Mehi River with a few inclines thrown in. Whether you're building your distance or racing for a podium finish, this 10km course offers something for everyone.
Time: 9:00am
Age Restriction: 13+ years
Cash Prize Categories: 17+ Male & Female, 13-16 years Male & Female
Grove Juice 5km: A scenic single lap course to run, jog, or walk your way through 5km of community cheer, making it the perfect mix of competitive spirit and personal challenge. To assist with easing start line congestion, participants must nominate a wave start when registering based on their approximate finish time (sub 30 minutes, over 30 minutes).
Time: 10:00am

C&W Financial Services 3km: A short and scenic loop along the riverbank. Perfect for younger runners, first timers, families or those wanting to soak up the Run the Plains atmosphere. To assist with easing start line congestion, participants must nominate a wave start when registering based on their approximate finish time (sub 15 minutes, over 15 minutes).

There will be some short-term road closures on Saturday morning in Albert St and Bank St to accommodate this event safely. Please ensure both runners and motorists follow the instructions of course volunteers, traffic marshals and Moree Plains Shire Council staff.
