Day 1 -Tawonga Wandi Loop
Don't let the numbers fool you—this one packs a lot of High Country magic into just 53 kilometres. Rolling out of Bright, the route heads towards Wandiligong before climbing steadily into the hills above Tawonga Gap. The road twists and turns through towering gums and open mountain vistas, rewarding every pedal stroke with spectacular views back across the valleys below. The climb is challenging without being overwhelming, making it the perfect introduction to High Country riding. Once you've reached the high point, it's all about flowing descents, quiet roads, and that feeling of freedom that only comes from riding through the mountains. A local favourite and a Backyard Tour classic, this loop delivers everything that's great about riding in Bright—stunning scenery, a proper climb, and plenty of opportunities to ride shoulder-to-shoulder with good mates.
Day 2 - Bright to Mount Hotham
Starting in Bright, this ride follows the Ovens Valley before turning skyward and tackling one of Australia's most iconic ascents. The climb unfolds in stages, winding through the alpine landscape as the views grow bigger and the air gets cooler. There's no hiding on Hotham—you settle into your rhythm, find your pace, and keep turning the pedals. The reward is one of the most spectacular cycling experiences in the country. Endless mountain vistas, alpine roads that seem to stretch forever, and the satisfaction of reaching the summit of a climb that sits firmly on every cyclist's bucket list.
Day 3 - Epic Tawonga Loop
This one has all the ingredients of a classic High Country epic. At nearly 153km with over 1,500 metres of climbing, the Epic Tawonga Loop is a day that keeps giving. You roll out of Bright and head deep into the valleys around Tawonga and Running Creek, linking together quiet country roads, punchy climbs, and some of the most spectacular scenery in the region. The terrain is never boring, with a constant mix of rolling roads and leg-testing ascents before the grand finale back towards Bright. It's the kind of ride that leaves you completely spent, grinning from ear to ear, and already talking about when you'll come back and do it again.
Day 4 - The Horn
If there's one ride that captures the beauty of the Victorian High Country, it's Mount Buffalo. Rising out of the valley floor, the climb winds its way through towering granite formations, alpine forests, and some of the most breathtaking scenery you'll find anywhere in Australia. The road is steady and relentless, but never intimidating, giving you plenty of time to settle into a rhythm and soak up the incredible surroundings. As you climb higher, the views open up across the Ovens Valley, with every corner revealing another postcard-worthy backdrop. Then, just when you think it can't get any better, you arrive on the Buffalo plateau where massive granite outcrops and endless vistas remind you why this place is so special. Mount Buffalo isn't about racing to the top. It's about enjoying every kilometre, sharing the experience with your mates, and taking in one of Australia's true cycling treasures.
