Help Mila raise money

For participating in 2021 Scotiabank Vancouver Half-Marathon & 5K

My Story…

Hi! My name is Mila.  I was diagnosed with Juvenille Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) before my second birthday.  It all started with a swollen ankle and a limp while walking. It was painful to walk and was initially dismissed as a soft tissue injury.  After several weeks of no improvement using various over-the-counter medications and numerous doctor vIsits, I was referred to BC Children’s Hospital.  From there it was confirmed that I had JIA, and the doctors set out a treatment plan for me.

Although there have been periods where I haven’t required medication, I have essentially been on medication for the past 4 years. I take daily and weekly medication and have my blood tested at least once every 3 months. Unfortunately, the flare-up in my ankle recently expanded to a knee joint but so far the medications have allowed me to stay active and healthy.

To raise awareness and support a pain free future for kids with juvenille arthritis and rheumatic disease, I am participating in the 2021 Scotiabank Charity Challenge with Team Cassie + Friends and will be running the 1km with my brother Liam
