Help Alec raise money

For participating in The 2021 ASICS Falmouth Road Race

Why this is important to me!

On August 15, I will be running the 2021 ASICS Falmouth Road Race in memory of my father, Michael Elbert (Papa/Deda Misha) for Team DetecTogether. I'll be running the 7-mile course in the town my dad considered his home away from home, his dacha. When I complete this race it will be 7 more miles than I ever thought I’d run in an organized race so I’ll need some help… I’ll use the inspirational stories of my dad’s pursuit of the American Dream in my effort to run more than I’ve ever attempted to before. As I do, I’ll share some great pictures and anecdotes about his remarkable life on my facebook in an effort to raise awareness and funds for early cancer detection.

DetecTogether teaches people how to recognize cancer symptoms and work with doctors to accelerate the time to diagnosis. My father passed away from stomach cancer on June 2, 2019 and one month later, I joined this outstanding organization. Since that point, our mission has become far more important to me than I ever thought as I learn more about my own family history and my own ancestral risk.

I ask you to consider supporting my effort by donating in Deda Misha’s memory. My goal is $4,800 (Orr/Neely/Parish) and a donation of any amount will make a difference. Please click on the donate button or send your tax-deductible donation to DetecTogether (53 Otis Street, Westborough, MA 01581) and indicate my name in the memo line on your check.

Papa played a big role in making me the man I am today and I am proud to be able to share some of the best memories I have of him. I truly appreciate your support as I take on this challenge.

Description

DetecTogether teaches people how to recognize cancer symptoms and work with doctors to accelerate the time to diagnosis. Forty percent of us will be diagnosed with cancer. In many cases you are 10 times more likely to survive when diagnosed early vs. late.

Our Strategy: 3 Steps Detect

3 Steps Detect is simple and effective. There are more than 100 types of cancer and CDC-recommended screenings for only four types. We sorted through the complexity of identifying cancer symptoms and developed this easy-to-follow roadmap for early cancer detection.

We believe that ALL people need this life-saving information. DetecTogether delivers its 3 Steps Detect training to high schools, colleges, community groups, organizations and workplaces throughout New England and beyond. Our offerings also include a tailored education for first responders who have an elevated risk of developing cancer because of their exposures at work

Your support is key to saving lives!
