Hospitality Homes’ unique “home away from home” model is simple and unique: we offer a place to stay to anyone traveling from outside the area to receive care at a Boston-area hospital. Normally, our network of approximately 150 volunteer host families open their homes to patients each year. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 crisis has created both an increase in demand for medical lodging as well as a decrease in the availability of volunteer homes. Despite this tremendous challenge, in 2020 our volunteer hosts across Greater Boston, along with our donated apartments, short-term rentals and partner hotels, provided 7,589 nights of accommodation to nearly 1,300 guests, saving them approximately $2.1 million.  

Your donations support Hospitality Homes critical need to provide housing.  With the prohibitively expensive costs of local hotels- averaging $260 per night- and the lack of sufficient hospital-sponsored housing, many patients struggle with what to do, balancing these and other out-of-pocket expenses with the already high cost of responding to a complex or chronic illness.
