Plan International Canada (Domestic)

Plan International Canada is a member of a global organization dedicated to advancing children’s rights and equality for girls. Because I am a Girl is Plan International’s global movement that aims to transform power relations so that girls everywhere can learn, lead, decide and thrive. Today’s generation of girls face so many pressures and barriers that keep them from tapping into their true power. It’s time we open doors for them, right here at home.

Because I am a Girl specializes in domestic projects that offer growth opportunities to girls facing unique challenges. We fund trainings, workshops, and inclusive sports programs here in Toronto to develop public speaking skills, self-esteem, knowledge, and confidence to lead while engaging local boys and men to redefine gender norms and advocate for gender equality.

We also engage our beneficiaries by extending seats at major conferences around the world, so girls can create a local-to-global connection, can make their voices heard – putting words to action – and can carve space for mentorship in diverse fields, proving girls belong wherever they choose. This project invests in our nation’s girls to drive positive change – ensuring they not only have a strong platform to stand on, but they can also build it themselves.
