WHAT IS A VIRTUAL RUN?
A virtual run/walk is a bit different than an in-person event. Run on your own terms. There are no parking problems. No crowds. No long porta potty lines. There is no start gun or nervous, pre-race chitchat with other runners. You can run or walk your distance anywhere, on any surface and anytime in the race window. The beauty of a virtual event is that two people could run the same race together at the same time and on the same day, but they can do it on either side of the country. You still get all the awesome swag and access to all the online privileges that in-person registrants receive, but you get to run where and when you want. Feeling competitive, no problem! You also have the option of automatically or manually uploading your time to our leaderboard. Below are the steps to follow for a virtual event.
1. REGISTER
Register online HERE for the virtual race of your choice – 10 Mile solo or 2-4 person relay (10 miles total).
2. RACE PACKAGE
When you register you can choose curbside pickup for your package or pay a small fee to have your package mailed directly to your house. If you select Curbside, you will often receive more free swag as there are some items that we can’t include in the mail out packages. Curbside pickup details can be found on the website HERE. We will also send out an email approximately one week prior to remind you of the place, dates and times. If you paid to have your race package mailed out, it should arrive about a week prior to the race period.
3. TIME TO RUN
Set a time to run or walk during the race period – October 7 to 10, 2021. Choose your own starting line. Pick your favourite place to run and map out where you need to go in order to run/walk your distance. You can run or walk either alone or with a group of friends on a pathway, trail or treadmill. It’s all about setting a goal to complete the race distance. Remember to download the Runkeeper app and sync this event to your account and then you just need to turn it on when you’re about to run/walk in order to track your time. If you use the Runkeeper app, your time will automatically load to our Leaderboard. If you use a different running app you have the option of uploading your time and a screenshot manually to the Leaderboard.
4. SHARE
Keep the community feel by sharing your accomplishments online. When you complete your Wild Run walk or run, put that hard-earned medal around your neck and take a selfie. Please share your accomplishment with the Run Calgary community on social media using #RunCalgaryVirtual #CalgaryZoo and tagging @RunCalgary and @CalgaryZoo
5. RUN IT FORWARD
You will be proud that not only did you reach your goal, but you also 'ran it forward'. All of our events support local charities. The Wild Run event supports the Calgary Zoo and their conversation efforts. If you didn’t already donate during registration you can still donate HERE and help our official charity reach their goal while you achieve yours.
