I care deeply about preserving healthy ecosystems close to where people live so that they can enjoy them and build a deep love for the natural world, and rare is doing just that! As an Ecological Monitoring Intern at rare, I get to monitor salamanders, a sensitive indicator species, to monitor the health of the ecosystems on rare properties. I also survey the vegetation to see the impact of invasive species like buckthorn and garlic mustard, and where removal efforts need to happen in the future!
