FAQ
When will I receive race communications with further details?
Emails will be sent to all participants starting 1 month prior to the race, again at 2 weeks prior to the race and lastly during the week of the race. If you have not received these emails, please first check your spam folder! Then, reach out to earthday5k@greebuilt.org to ensure you're ready to go and fully informed.
Where should I park?
Please do NOT park at the Outpost. Race participants must park at Carrier Park and walk to the venue via the sidewalk for race festivities. Please email earthday5k@greenbuilt.org if you need accommodations.
Where can I submit my virtual race time?
Virtual runners can submit any time during Earth Month (April). You will be asked to upload a screenshot of your time in order to post to the public results page. The link will be provided at a later date.
Are strollers allowed on the course?
Yes, strollers are allowed. Parts of the route are on a dirt path, so please use your discretion.
Are dogs allowed?
Carrier Park is a public park that allows dogs. We encourage furry friends to run in the back of the race rather than in front of our competitive racers.
Can I transfer to a different race?
All participants can transfer into the virtual version of the event up until the start of the event.
There will be no refunds for the price difference between events and there will be no transfer of registration to another person.
Please note that RaceRoster implements a transfer fee and will ask for your credit card information in order to process the transfer. This fee cannot be waived.
Are refunds available if I can no longer attend?
Due to the nature of the event, we will not be providing refunds if the event has to be canceled for unforeseen circumstances or if participant can not attend in-person. If you have registered and can not attend the in-person event, please transfer into the virtual event.
In the event of an unforeseen circumstance, such as an emergency, an act of god, or change in pandemic status resulting in the inability to have the in-person event, we reserve the right to cancel the event and automatically convert all in-person registrations to the virtual option and no refunds will be issued. Should this occur, your swag will be mailed to you for free.
What is the event weather policy?
Earth Day 5K will occur rain or shine. In the event of severe weather such as lightning or flooding, the event may be delayed. Severe weather updates will be provided via email and/or social media day of the event.
What will I receive during packet pickup?
At packet pickup you will receive your timing bib, race day t-shirt, and goody bag.
How does timing work?
Your bib includes your timing chip. Please be careful not to bend the bib or remove the timing chip. The timing chip begins when you cross the start and ends when you cross the finish line.
Will there be a place I am able to drop off my belongings before the race?
We do not have a designated location for bag drop. Please keep any items you do not wish to hold during the race in your cars. Carrier Park is a public park. Please use your own discretion and remember to lock your vehicles. You may request event staff hold onto your goody bag until after the race if you do not wish to take this back to your vehicle prior to starting.
Please note in order to receive a free beer at the race afterparty, you MUST have your ID available to present to the Outpost staff. Please plan ahead.
What can I expect at the start and finish lines?
The start line is where runners will line up prior to the race. We will make announcements leading up to the start time and will begin promptly at 10:00 AM for the 5K and 10:10 for the 1 Mile Fun Run.
At the finish line, we will have water, snacks, and vendor booths for you to look through and pick up other swag items. The awards ceremony will begin at 11:00 AM and prizes will be awarded.
We will also have music, food and drink, and other exciting opportunities provided by our sponsors. Plan to stick around for a few hours to enjoy the festivities! The afterparty is also open to the public for a suggested donation of $10 at the door. Invite your friends to cheer you on!
Are restrooms available?
Nearby Carrier Park has public restrooms, subject to availability. The Outpost also has bathrooms available, with accessible options. The 5K course also passes through French Broad River Park where public restrooms are also present, subject to park availability.
If I elected to have my virtual 5K swag mailed, when will I receive it?
Virtual 5K swag will be mailed to participants in May. You may also elect to pick up your items from the Green Built Alliance office in downtown Asheville. To coordinate, email earthday5k@greenbuilt.org.
Where can I see my 5K race time?
5K result will be posted immediately after the race. You can scan the QR code on your bib to access the results page. A link will be provided here at a later date.
I did not sign up in time to receive a t-shirt. Will there be extras?
If you were not able to secure a 2024 Earth Day 5K shirt during your registration, this means we have run out of inventory. Vintage 5K t-shirts and Green Built Alliance t-shirts will be available after the race for purchase.
