Sinister 7 Ultra Update
Hi |*FIRST_NAME*|,
Thanks for signing up for Sinister 7 Ultra! We know there is a lot of commitment when you are getting ready for a race, and we want to give everyone an outstanding experience.
It's just three and a half months to the race, so let's get going with some update.
LEG 1 CHANGES
In case you missed it on social media, we have changed the route for Leg 1. The new route means that runners no longer go along the train tracks or the highway, and you will get up close and personal with the Frank Slide Trail, which is part of the Crowsnest Community Trail. This change also means more single-track and wilderness.
This makes Leg 1 3km longer, which gives us a great opportunity to add a half marathon distance at the beginning of the race (see below). But Mr. Sinister! What does that do to the rest of the course and cutoff times!? We will be trimming some fat, so to speak, from other parts of Leg 1, Leg 2, Leg 3, and Leg 5 to make up this distance. We are just reviewing the best bits to gnaw off, and we will update everyone in April.

NEW HALF MARATHON DISTANCE
That's right, in an effort to give everyone the option for a distance that inspires them, we have a Half Marathon! The Half (well, it’s slightly longer than a Half, but you are trail runners, so suck it up), will follow the same route as the 50k, and it will start at 7:30am. Unlike the 50k, you just don't do Leg 3. So if you still have friends that want to run, but aren't ready for the 50k, and don't play well enough with others for the relay, here is the option for them! ;)
100-MILER TRAINING PLAN
This is mostly for anyone running the 100-miler, or a similar long race, but we think it's valuable for everyone. Trail Master Shep has created a new training plan to help offer insights into the course, and to hone your workouts as you prepare for the race. There is no charge – this is another complementary service for our runners.
Our new Sinister 7 Ultra training plan is a collaboration with Cody Taylor of New Normal Coaching. This plan is designed to help 100-mile solo runners achieve their goals come race day. There is no fee, and we encourage you to reach out to Cody, or your own coach, to help tailor everything to your personal needs.
When you sign up, you will receive weekly emails with the plan for the week, plus extra information on how that relates to the course. By the end of 16 weeks, you will see the full scope of the race, including details on what to watch for on the toughest segments, and both rest and nutrition strategies.
If you are coming into this part way, don't panic! This is a guide, not the be-all and end-all. Reach out if you need help or motivation.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW ONTARIO RD
While this isn't about Sinister 7, it's still important. As you may know, we are going to be hosting two races in Ontario this year. Welcome, John Rasmussen, our new Race Director for Ontario Events!
"At the age of nine years old, I became infatuated with the sport of triathlon and it led me towards a lifelong pursuit of excellence in endurance sport.
In the early 2000s, I was fortunate to be inspired by John Salt who created a pathway for me, and countless others, across Canada to not only race in triathlons, but be part of an incredible community collectively celebrating and coming together to be their best.
I experienced the same atmosphere and camaraderie at my first ultra-distance trail race in 2023 at the Canadian Death Race and have been hooked ever since. It is with that same vision and passion that I hope to emulate in all the races that I direct at Sinister Sports.
I aspire to foster a culture where everyone who steps on a Sinister Sports start line, volunteers, cheers, or maybe even has a little fear, feels welcomed and celebrated. I hope that together we can create unforgettable memories that shape us to our core and we can grow together in the years to come.
Off the trails, I am a father, husband, and lifelong athlete. I am always happy to connect especially over chocolate and coffee, so please never hesitate to reach out!"
See you soon!
Kindest regards,
Brian Gallant
