Mon histoire…
My son is 11 years old today. As a baby, he met most of his development milestones until the age of two. At home, we later started noticing delays in his speech, lack of eye contact and the frequent repetition of the names of his favorite train toys. Once he started daycare, he showed limited interest in group activities and we started to get concerned. We share these concerns with our pediatrician who guided us how to start the process to validate our suspicion, and yes, at 3 and half years old, we got confirmation our son was on the spectrum.
As a first-time parent, when you hear that your son has autism, you stop breathing for a second or two. You also start a grieving process when you realize that your son will likely not have the life you had dreamed of.
It quickly becomes clear that our child deserves all the love and support to overcome his challenges that we could give him. We need to be strong and confident as we navigate through our journey.
Today, we have learned so much from his courage and his beautiful soul. It is thanks to our son that we are more resilient, empathetic, and blessed with a rich and joyful life.
I want to run a half marathon and raise money to support the foundation Autism without Limits. I hope to encourage you to be compassionate and advocate for kids and adults with autism, and most importantly believe that they can thrive and grow confident when we support their journey.
